I just encountered this problem when i tried to import mp3 files.... and I solved it by opening my mp3 file in an mp3 editor(can use any mp3 editor) and save it as a new file...and import it to the assets...... problem solved........ :)

This is still an issue as of 5.5.f3. I am trying to upgrade our game from v5.0.2 but it fails on hundreds of files and in the end I need to close the import process.

Just experienced this problem while Unity was recreating my project's Library folder (ran into those annoying Timestamps out of sync issues) with v. 5.5.0f3.
