Can't animate color value of materials

Animation

-

In the animation window it is possible to enter a new value for any of the rgba channels and the curve changes appropriately, however the value is returned to the default after the enter button is pressed.

Reproduced with:
Unity Version 4.3.1f1 (cebd4d9b5122)
Unity Version 4.3.2f1 (0517a5ae8669)

[edit]
If you want to animate color values with the animation window with Unity 4.3+, you need to use the Animator component. The old component (Animation) is legacy and is not in active development anymore.

[edit]
You can convert the legacy animations to the new system to animate the material properties in the new Animation Window, take a look at this thread:

Sorry I retract my complaint. We just have to move on to the new "Animator" from the legacy "Animation". It's just an extra step via "Animator Controller", add a new "rectangle", click it and you can load your same old animation and edit and play it like before. If you have previously modified the animation in debug mode to type 1, change it back to type 2 before loading it in Animator.

The debug mode trick doesn't seem to work on v4.5.0 or onward...

Yeah, this is terrible. We rely heavily on simple material animations - our game has tons of content and is live. You cannot possibly expect us to go offline and reconfigure hundreds (if not thousands) of animations just so we can jump through tedious/pointless animation states?!! Look, i get it, states are great for blending mecanim animations, just don't disable a system so many of us depend on! Clearly, existing legacy animations are still supported but you won't let us edit them? What the hell!?

You'd think they'd start caring, given the sheer amount of angry comments and threads there are regarding this issue.

Unity Devs: I cannot even animate colors with Animator curves. This is a nightmare.

Well I've been trying to figure this out - but by the looks of it the curves editing has been moved to a pro only feature. That would probably be the "by design" thing.

I've got Unity 4.5.1 and this issue is still valid. It's so annoying...
