32-bit editor crashes while importing asset packages
Reproduction steps:
1- Open 32-bit editor.
2- Increase memory usage of editor near to 2 GB. (You can open many scenes additive to achieve that.)
3- Import one of Characters or Vehicles asset packages.
Expected Result: Assets are imported or a proper error message appears to inform user that there is not enough memory.
Observed Result: Editor crashes without any message.
Reproduced with: 5.6.0f3, 5.6.0b7
Not reproduced with: 5.5.2f1
Won't fix because 32bit versions of Unity are now deprecated and longer supported.

Yeah it happens with me.
What to do?
My specs:
Intel core 2 duo E7400@2.80GHz
2GB Ram
Unity 5.6.6 32 bit
Windows 7
I also tried it on other computer:
The specs:
Intel core i3 @ 2.30GHz
4GB Ram
Windows 7
Unity 5.6.6 32 bit
Pls tell me what to do because I want to make an fps shooter in my unity and unable to import standard assets characters pack.
Unity closes automatically then.

Решение проблемы банально просто:
1. Необходимо конвертировать все файлы, содержащие в имени Occlusion, например AircraftFuselageOcclusion.png, в формат tif.
2. Удалить из папки Textures оригинальные файлы и мета, например AircraftFuselageOcclusion.png.meta.
3. Запустить проект заново.

The solution to the problem is simple:
1. It is necessary to convert all files containing in the name Occlusion, for example AircraftFuselageOcclusion.png, to the tif format.
2. Delete the original files and meta from the Textures folder, for example, AircraftFuselageOcclusion.png.meta and AircraftFuselageOcclusion.png.
3. Run the project again.
