Unity takes a very long time to build a project which has particular shaders in the assets folder

Build Pipeline

-

The project is very small and consists only of an empty scene and shaders in the asset folder

To reproduce:

1. Open the project, attached by tester (unityFreeze.zip)
2. Build the project for standalone
3. Observe how Unity seemingly freezes at Packaging assets - resources.assets

Expected: Unity does not take a very long time when building the project
Actual: Unity seemingly freezes and finishes the build only after a few minutes when building the project with particular shaders in the asset folder

Reproduced in 5.4.5p2, 5.5.3p2, 5.6.1f1, 2017.1.0b2, 2017.1.0b6, 2017.2.0a1

    Reproducible in 2020.2.1f1

Why is this issue closed? It is very much reproducible.
Just build a scene with some speed trees and watch as unity compiles 8 million shader variants.

    Confirmed in 2019.1.1f1

The root couse is the enormous amount of shader variations created by SpeedTree's as for what I see.
I unticked all the boxes in project settings -> graphics -> ShaderStripping.
However, still takes 30 min to build.

This doesn't seem resolved, I'm still getting really long builds in 2018.2.13. WebGL takes 20+ minutes to build. What info can we give to help solve this?

We are having the same issue, we have a good few scenes in our build and many shaders and one very high quality environment scene, it would be useful to know what shaders seem to be causing this

Having the same issue ... Unity shows up in Task Manager as not responding. I will be patient and see it if ever finishes, but I don't think this is normal behavior.
