Performance of MovieTexture on WP8 is significantly worse than performance of Handheld.PlayFullScreenMovie on Android
Performance of MovieTexture on WP8 is significantly worse than performance of Handheld.PlayFullScreenMovie on Android.
MovieTexture of WP8 is the only Unity-wise alternative of playing movies.
Why is this not going to be fixed:
Handheld.PlayFullScreenMovie() was implemented in Unity 5.0. Therefore there's no more use of using MovieTexture for cinematics.
Also, we currently support only MovieTextures in OGG/Theora format on all platforms, and such it can only be decoded on the CPU. Since CPUs on mobile devices are pretty slow, it's is not recommended to use MovieTextures on them.
