Maverick and Unity performance issues

IMGUI

-

On some Mac's with OS X 10.9 Unity performance is very bad, including stuttering, editor freezes, editor lags and similar.

We found that there seems to be a leak in Maverick's OpenGL ARB VBO implementation.
Our text rendering creates and destroys a lot of VBO's so it is most likely that this happened after around 10 minutes of working with Unity and the inspector or other text heavy components in unity uploading a lot of geometry.

Terrains will be especially affected, but of course just loading a scene / unloading a scene will load / unload VBO's for all the meshes too.

This issue has been fixed with a workaround in 4.3.4. We are working with Apple to get a proper fix done, at which point we will be able to remove the workaround.

Is it fixed? I have been waiting to upgrade to Mavericks till I knew it was fixed. Can some of you please report back that the new update worked for fixing this problem and that it is now safe for the rest of us to upgrade to Mavericks or not? Thanks for the help! jim

Thank you Unity team, because even if the driver is the culprit, you still have solved it.

Yes!!! Sweet love songs! This news is music to my ears! I was about to uninstall everything including a bootcamp drive just so I could get a functioning copy of Unity on my mac. Thanks a million!

oh Thanks God! please release it as soon as you can guys, i love Unity and i know you're working hard to get this fixed, but having Unity getting hang every minute is so frustrating, i have to keep closing Unity and open it up again every 5 to 10 minutes just to try to work with it.

We have a fix in 4.3.4. It is a workaround for the driver issue in OpenGL. It has been sent to the beta list and fixes the issue. It will be released very soon.

Unity Team, please find a way to get this fixed. I realize this may be an Apple Mavericks issue and not your fault but the community needs a fix urgently. Even if you have to contact Apple and force their hand please do not let this sit unresolved.

i've been having this performance issues, i have a macbook pro with mavericks and its so frustrating trying to work with unity with this problem.

i manage to download that 10.9.2 patch.. almost 600mb download, install it and.. its not fixed at all..

unity works little better now, doesnt seems to freeze quite often but the problem remains, is not fixed at all.

i dont want to wipe out my computer and go back to mountain lion.. actually im thiking on putting a virtual machine with mountain lion on my mavericks system and try to run Unity on that virtual machine.. what you guys think?

Just wanted to add my own troubles to the list and keep it bumping.... no rhyme or reason just random freezes can be 1 minute or 3 minutes, on latest mavericks (10.9.1) and latest unity (4.3.3.1f) making development very awkward......

tried the smc and ram reset on boot which does seem to give me a couple of hours freeze free but then it slowly creeps back into the usual routine.
