Root Motion character warps into a new position when negative speed values are applied in a Blend Tree
Reproduction steps:
1. Open the users attached project “GameKitController-blendTree-test”
2. Open the Scene “Objectives System Demo”
3. Enter the Play Mode
4. Click and hold the right mouse button to make the character aim its weapon
5. While holding the right mouse button, press the “S key” to move backward or “A key” to strafe to the left
Expected result: The character strafes to the correct direction
Actual result: The character keeps warping in the opposite direction
Reproducible with: 2022.1.0a16, 2022.1.23f1, 2022.2.0b16, 2023.1.0a19
Not reproducible with: 2020.3.42f1, 2021.3.14f1, 2022.1.0a15
Reproducible on: macOS Catalina 10.15.7 (Intel)
Notes:
- Also reproduced in Standalone Player
- The blend node with the negative speed values can be found on the “Player And Game Management\Player 1\Character\Player Controller“ object and by selecting “Base Layer\Main Movement\Grounded\Armed Strafe Free View\weapon ID 0” through the Animator window
- Changing the Blend Tree time values of “Walk” and “strafe_right” motions to positive, doesn’t warp the character into a new position
- View the attached “blend tree_negative speed_root motion issue_test.png” to see where the negative speed is applied
