I had this same issue when installing Microsoft Teams on a Mac mini. MacOS 12.4, Unity 2020.3.9.

Problem went away after uninstalling Teams.

On 2020.3 and Big Sur 11.6. Same issue. Fixed mine by deleting Library folder.

I am having this problem on a Mac Mini Big Sur 11.0.1 and using Unity 2019.4.15f1. I have external speakers plugged into the headphones port so the workaround didn't work for me.
