Lighting generation freezes the Editor during the Global Illumination Post Processing stage when baking lighting on certain systems
How to reproduce:
1. Open the “Lightest” project
2. Open the “SampleScene“
3. Open the Lighting window (Window → Rendering → Lighting)
4. Click on the Generate Lighting button
5. Observe the “Hold on” window appears at the Global Illumination Post Processing stage
Expected result: Lightmap data is generated successfully and quickly, no “Hold on” window appears
Actual result: Lightmap data generation takes too long or freezes the Editor
Reproducible in: 6000.0.23f1
Reproducible on: Windows 10
Not reproducible on: No other environment tested
Notes:
- The issue was not tested by CQA
- The issue is known to be reproducible on machines with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070, 4080 and 4090
- If canceling the Lighting generation at the Post Processing stage the Editor freezes with GI.Tick progress bar

fixed for me now on .30 with adaptive probe volumes. I also had to disable a large water plane, which I had tried to do before at some point (I think).

Can confirm this also happens when baking on an RTX 4090 on an existing project upgraded to 6000.0.28f1. Baking seemingly takes forever and hangs on step 1/3 where previously this baked in 5 minutes.

posted the question on forum https://discussions.unity.com/t/unity-6-is-stuck-baking-lighting-map/1541579/2 then landed here and voted.
this is the most hack of deal issue and it must be fixed man.

Can confirm the same issue happens on 6000.0.21 and 6000.0.22 in the form of a crash not a freeze. Not sure about 6000.0.19 and 6000.0.20.
So far the only version that doesn't have this issue at all is 6000.018.

This issue doesn't only cause a freeze, it also crashes the editor sometimes.
Repro 100% on Windows 11 with RTX 4090 (latest drivers).
