GameObjects mesh is stuck at Combined Mesh (root:scene) and cannot be moved after aborting a build process

Graphics - General

Priority: 3Not yet prioritized for a release

Severity: 2No workaround

1. Download and open "ReproProject"
2. Go to Window --> Lighting --> Settings and disable "Auto Generate" (or "Auto" if using 5.5 version)
3. Go to File --> Build & Run, wait for the Build to start
4. Quickly abort it, once it is started

Expected result: All the Mesh Filters contain their current meshes and nothing is changed
Actual result: Some of the Mesh Filters are shown as Combined Mesh (root:scene) and cannot be moved anymore. This behaviour should happen only when in playmode with static GameObjects

Reproducible with: 5.6.0f2, 5.5.2p3
Not reproducible with - 2017.1.0a3

1. Probably not the only way to reproduce the bug, other users are experiencing this issue after downgrading, light baking or etc
2. Can't reproduce the issue with 5.4 version of Unity, since the project gets corrupted and couldn't cause the issue with my own project

Unless you backup your projects frequently this is a serious bug that can destroy the whole mesh / light in your project.
Make sure you never abort a build process.

this may not be a build issue, other than when assets are imported into the new version.
