Regression
No
Animation Preview window does not display animations for GameObjects containing Sprite Renderers without a default sprite
How to reproduce:
1. Download the tester-attached package(SpritelessAnimationPreview.unitypackage)
2. Create a new Unity project and import the package
3. Select SpriteAnimation.anim
4. Drag WithoutSprite.prefab into the Animation Preview window
Expected result: the animation can be previewed
Actual result: the animation cannot be previewed; "No model is available for preview. Please drag a model into this Preview Area."
Reproducible with: 2017.4.38f1, 2018.4.19f1, 2019.3.6f1, 2020.1.0b2, 2020.2.0a4
Notes:
WithoutSprite.prefab is identical to WithSprite, except it does not have a default set Sprite on its Sprite Renderer
The animation can still be previewed on WithoutSprite.prefab in the Scene view, by playing it via Animation window

Resolution Note:
Workaround is to either have a Sprite assigned by default or use the Animation window to preview.
Otherwise it's a low priority, not critical path so it won't be fixed.
