Noticeable color banding artifacts appear when FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is active with a render scale less than 1.05
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open the attached user's project "fsr-fog-banding.zip"
2. Under "Assets/Settings/URP-HighFidelity.asset" Quality settings make sure Upscaling Filter is set to FidelityFX and the Render Scale is lower than 1.05
3. Open the "SampleScene.unity"
4. In the Game View increase the zoom in Scale factor so that the color banding is visible in lower half of Game View
Expected results: Noticeable color banding artifacts do not appear when FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is active with a render scale less than 1.05
Actual results: Noticeable color banding artifacts appear when FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is active with a render scale less than 1.05 (See attached Results.png)
Reproducible with: URP 12.1.12 (2021.3.31f1), URP 14.0.8 (2022.3.10f1), URP 15.0.6 (2023.1.16f1), URP 16.0.3 (2023.2.0b12), URP 17.0.0 (2023.3.0a8)
Reproducible on: Windows 10
Not reproducible on: No other environment tested
Notes:
-Could not reproduce using HDRP FSR
-Issue occurs regardless of High Dynamic Range (HDR) precision being set to 32 or 64 bits
-Issue affects both Grading Modes, including Low Dynamic Range (LDR) and High Dynamic Range (HDR) options
-Workaround:
Currently, the only workaround is to disable FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) or set the render scale to 1.05 or greater, which eliminates the color banding artifacts but sacrifices the performance optimization benefits of FSR
