[URP] Shadows applied to Speed Trees are too Dark and Change their appearance depending on the Distance

How to reproduce:
1. Open the attached project named Case_1171489
2. Open the New Scene
3. Observe the tree in the Scene

Expected result: Tree receives accurate shadows
Actual result: Tree shadows are too dark and change their appearance depending on the distance to the camera

Reproducible with: 2019.1.13f1, 2019.2.0f1, 2019.3.0a11
Could not test with: 2017.4.31f1(No LWRP), 2018.4.5f1(Tree materials would break)

Reproducible with Package versions: 5.16.1, 6.9.0, 7.0.0
Could not test with Package versions: 4.10.0, 5.13.0, 6.7.1(Tree materials would break)

  1. Resolution Note (fix version 10.3.1):

    Fixed in URP 10.3.1 which is available in Unity 2020.2 and above

    But this isn't fixed in Unity 2021.3.0f1 with URP 12.1.6. No ambient light on SpeedTrees in URP.

    Someone actually fixed the Speedtree 7 shader here so that it actually uses the ambient light of the Unity scene and looks correct now

    Ambient light settings have no effect on dark / black areas of the tree. If you remove the normal maps from the materials it show the problem more clearly.

    Hoping this gets fixed soon, reported it to Speedtree and Unity Support who both confirmed it is an issue. I have been told it is being worked on.

    Would love a fix for this! Currently SpeedTrees are unusable in URP.

    SpeedTree shaders in URP should apply ambient light as configured in the Lighting Settings. Otherwise, with just one directional light, the part of the tree that remains in shadows is almost black.
