Built-in TextMesh objects get corrupted when setting the font at runtime

How to reproduce:
1. Open the user-submitted project
2. Enter Play mode and observe the TextMesh Object

Expected result: the font is successfully changed by the script without any issues
Actual result: the font gets corrupted when set at runtime

Reproduced in: 2019.1.0a1, 2018.3.0b2, 2018.2.9f1, 2018.1.9f2
