Unity crashes when opening if GiCache is set to non-existant path
To reproduce:
1) Create new project
2) Plug in an external data storage device (USB flash drive or external HDD/SSD)
3) Set GICache to that external device
4) Close Unity
5) Plug out device
6) Try opening that project - Unity crashes with a fatal error.
Plugging in the device fixes the problem, but a hard crash is a hard crash
