Unity crashes at the Home screen when Lavasoft Web Companion is installed
Lavasoft Web Companion inteferes with the embedded browser library used to display various parts of the Unity Editor UI, causing a crash.
We have contacted Lavasoft and made them aware of the issue, but the issue can only be resolved within their software.
As a workaround, uninstall the Web Companion software.

In my case, I got the Web Companion software as a malware after installing another software. The best workaround for this issue is to uninstall the web companion and delete the remaining .dll files manually. If you have any issues after uninstalling like network or connection lost, check this solution: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?/topic/34376-solution-for-lavasofttcpservice-problem-after-uninstallation/
