UUM-44461
Regression
No
Assets' preview icons are not automatically generated when opening the project and return to default icons when exiting the Play Mode
Reproduction steps:
1. Open the attached “ASDQWE” project
2. Observe the “Assets/Blue.mat” Material preview icon in the Project Window
3. Enter the Play Mode
4. Exit the Play Mode
6. Repeat the 2nd step
Expected result: The Material’s preview icon did not change
Actual results: The Material’s preview icon changed into the default icon for its type
Reproducible with: 2022.3.5f1, 2023.1.5f1
Could not test with: 2021.3.28f1 (“ArgumentException: RenderTextureDesc width must be greater than zero.” errors are thrown infinitely), 2023.2.0b1 (Multiple Compute Shaders errors which prevent from displaying/using the required Assets)
Reproducible on: Intel macOS 13.4.1
Notes:
* The “Assets/Barricade01.fbx” Asset, “Assets/Barricade01.prefab” Prefab, and “Asset/Blue.mat” Material inside their Preview Icons are displayed darker than their actual color
* Moving the mouse on the Preview Window inside the Inspector Window turns “Blue.mat” Material’s preview lighter
* On blank URP and HDRP projects, the Asset preview icons do not appear darker, and moving the mouse on the Preview Window inside the Inspector Window does not turn them lighter. However, exiting following the reproduction steps yield the same result
* Similar behavior can be observed on the “Assets/Barricade01.fbx” Asset and “Assets/Barricade01.prefab” Prefab (and with “Asset/Blue.mat” Material if its icon preview was not loaded upon start-up of the project) if they were selected before entering the Play Mode
